WriterKEY® was selected to present at the TASA Midwinter Conference's Innovation Zone
to demonstrate cutting edge instructional technology
for educators. We showcased our tools that help
teachers and students be more effective and efficient.
We also presented dynamic new features
such as Writer's Workshop.
TASA is the Texas Association of School Adminstrators.
The Midwinter Conference in Austin, TX took place January 26th-28th 2014.
Typically, 5,000 educators attend this conference each year.

WriterKEY is a web-based application designed to help teachers give formative feedback to students more effectively and more efficiently than ever before. WriterKEY's features are fully aligned to the Common Core State Standards, and its innovative approach enables teachers to give feedback to students at key points during the learning process, helping students to grow and evolve into better writers.
Teachers have hauled around ungraded papers in shopping bags, overstuffed satchels, and back-breaking shoulder bags for years. Papers get lost, assignments take weeks to be graded, and when students finally receive their grades, they often pay little attention to the considerable comments and notes the teacher has provided along with a grade. WriterKEY helps organize and simplify the response process, facilitating better feedback in less time.
With traditional methods, by the time a student receives a grade, the opportunity to learn and improve based on feedback has more or less slipped away. And, in most schools, data is not recorded on student writing, so once the assignment is returned to the student, it's lost to the school. When papers are submitted through WriterKEY, both teachers and students are able to access past assignments and track writing growth. Because WriterKEY makes the process so much more efficient, students receive feedback while they are still connected to the assignment and able to make meaningful improvements to their writing.
WriterKEY is not an electronic grader. In fact, every teacher comment becomes part of the rich data analytics that guide instruction and monitor progress. Skill-building tools are fully integrated into the system to foster collaborative improvement, making students and teachers true partners in the learning process. Users can analyze data, monitor progress, and create custom roadmaps to build better writing skills. By keeping teacher and student expectations aligned, everyone on the team fully understands where they are and where they want to go.
Teachers who use WriterKEY give better, more targeted feedback because the application helps them focus on the link between assessment and instruction; students who use WriterKEY receive efficient, effective feedback that helps them become better writers.
Writer's Workshop with Peer Editing!
Do you want to have students peer edit assignments? Do you want to be able to oversee the whole process efficiently? Well, we are pretty excited about our brand new "Writer's Workshop" toolkit that makes the process of sharing writing, tracking progress, and giving feedback efficient. Focused response tools with prebuilt sentence starters help students target the feedback they are looking for from their readers.
Data Center upgrades, new Research page, and our presentation at EdLab!
We have been working on the data center to improve the types of data that be seen and analyzed in WriterKEY. Click on the Data Center and you can view data from student reflections both for an assignment and the response trend across multiple assignments.
Students are also able to see their trend data about editing marks, grades, and objectives -all of this is accessible from the new Trend Data tab. Bonus: a teacher can now select an optional setting that allows students to see their data relative to the class average.
What else? Check out our new Research page, a recent EdLab presentation, and more from the quick links on the footer of this page.
